Connect to your inner weirdo:Say Hello to a Different Tree Every Day
This week, I want to share a simple yet profound practice that I've been embracing: saying hello to a different tree every day.
It might sound odd and a bit quirky, but hear me out.
I realised that I’ve not been connecting to nature enough. I regularly go on amazing adventures but don’t always find the time to daily connect with nature.
During a lovely morning breath-work I had an idea.
Why don’t I make an effort to connect to a different tree every day and document it on my phone. That way I ensure I keep up the discipline.
Each day, I've been taking a moment to greet a tree, and in doing so, I'm reminded of just how easy it is to connect with nature, show a little gratitude, and remember our place in the grand scheme of things.
On day two, I must admit, I felt a bit like a weirdo in the park—standing there, smiling at a tree while everyone else was passing by, lost in their morning routines.
Thanking the tree for the oxygen it provides, it’s connection to the sun and the Universe, that in turn remind me of my connection to a greater whole. Thanking it for the beautiful view it creates and imagining everything it’s witnessed. For the resting place it provides for the birds and insects and who knows what other forms of life.
And yes, I know—it sounds a bit out there. But the benefits of doing something as simple as connecting with nature in this way are undeniable.
This practice isn't just about the tree itself. It's about taking a moment each day to step out of the usual hustle and bustle, to find a bit of stillness, and to reconnect with something larger than ourselves.
Whether you're in a park, your garden, or even just passing by some greenery on your commute, pausing to acknowledge a tree is a wonderful way to appreciate nature and show gratitude for the life around us.
So, if you find yourself rushing from one thing to the next, why not give it a try?
Say hello to a tree today. Notice its texture, its shape, the shade it provides.
Let yourself be present in that moment, even if it feels a little silly at first. I promise—it's worth it. Maybe even document it and share it after a week or a month.
Wishing you a week full of small but meaningful moments of connection. Enjoy the weirdness. Embrace the trees.
I'd love to hear about your experience if you decide to give this a try!
